Helping Children Worldwide is sponsoring it’s Child Rescue Centre Benefit 5K/1Mi Walk on Saturday, June 9th at Galilee United Methodist Church in Sterling, Virginia. The CRC 5K Walk supports the Child Rescue Centre in Bo, Sierra Leone, which rescues children from poverty and threatened homelessness in one of the poorest regions in the world. http://ow.ly/b4BMa
The Greenwell Foundation’s camp scholarship fund is in need of donations. They graciously accept donations of any amount. The scholarship fund allows children with disabilities to attend inclusive summer day camps at a reduced cost, and in some cases, no cost. http://ow.ly/b4C2I
The Charles County Literacy Council always needs additional adult volunteers (age 18 and older) who would like to become trained tutors. The next volunteer workshop is scheduled for October 24, 25, and 26th, from 6:00-9:00 p.m. each evening at the Lifelong Learning Center in Waldorf, MD. Registration will begin in August. Once trained, tutors are matched, one-on-one, to tutor adult learners in the areas of reading, writing, basic mathematics and English for speakers of other languages.
